worm bin

Great lil thread, really shows how a lil effort goes a long way.

The worms pretty much all migrate to the new trays themselves, no herding needed except for stragglers that end up in the bottom?

yes when i harvested there was like 2
clumps of prob 20 worms or so. the rest
of the tray did not see any and when i stirred
up the casting's before i used them i found 1 worm.
so i do like the bin's. i have sorted worms before by
hand not fun. the plant's do like the casting's.
the PH of the finished casting's was 7.22.

well i harvested a tray today.
i was right a full tray = a full 5 gal bucket.
so took a while, but i have enough castings now.
so here is 5 gal's of nice shit.

seems this system just plain flat out worked great

i hear so often that folk cant get vermi to work for them
what do you think are the typical mistakes getting made?

great i am thinking of getting another bin.
have enough worms in bin to split them.
i get a full 5 gal bucket every 2 1/2 months.
is working very well and plants love it.

2 years to reach this point... bet your two will be ready to split in half that time now that you know the ropes!

ok i bought a 2nd bin. plants love that fresh castings.
so i set up bin and split worms today. on 1st bin i have
3 trays bottom, middle and top. most the time when top
bin is full i empty the bottom tray for castings.

anyway let's split some worms. i took middle tray off 1st bin
and placed onto base of 2nd bin. and put top tray back on 1st bin.
like so.

then i marked middle of 1st bin with tape and took 1/2 of bedding
and worms and moved to 2nd tray.
like so.

then i spread the bedding and worms out in both bins.
like so.

after that i added bedding to both bins.
like so.

now i will let them sit a few days. after that back to feeding
every week.
