chat issues ?

couldnt log on into chat, today ...

days before there was no log in, and chat worked without loggin in

I just tried to click in on the main/home page and it didn't go anywhere. I then tried and entered through the "Site Features" at the top-left of every page (the drop-down menu). It went in, but it asked me for a username and login. The username section wouldn't allow me to enter in my entire username. It cut me off at WhiteHotAfterbu. I tried my password anyway and it said my username and password were wrong

Same-same here. It won't go in from the main/front page and I tried all four of the links there. I do, however, have "pop-ups" blocked so I don't know if that has anything to do with it--I don't get the message at the top of the page saying a "a pop-up trying to open has been blocked" so I don't think that's an issue in this instance.

And entering through the "Site Features" drop-down menu does open a new window. A log-in box appears but it only allows me to enter in WhiteHotAfterbu of my username.

Here's something I just noticed and I don't know if it means anything at all, but IF I'm not all the way at the bottom of the page when I click on the chat links the page jumps to the bottom without opening chat. It just jumps the page...like hitting the space-bar on any page.

Like I said, I don't know if it will help diagnose the problem but that is what is happening and maybe it will help to know that.

um, what chat links? the only place i know of there being chat links is in the dropdown menu at the top of the page - on all the pages - which may be why they are not working for you. i am not sure why its not letting you in tho. you will never be able to sign in from that log in box - if you see it it means its not reading the db correctly...

i will investigate more

it would help me if you could tell me what browser and build you are using - since i am able to get into it in firefox

The chat links on mPG's main/front page. The chat links are in the red box bottom-left corner...

In this instance I'm using IE8 Build 8.0.6001.18999

I never knew this. I thought those were chat links. Someone is in the "Smokers Lounge" right now. And what I thought were chat links this whole time are actually just like a counter. It's showing me there is 1 in the "Smokers Lounge" and I can collapse that counter or open it and see who it is in there.

My bad.....I didn't know that until just this moment

Also, I forgot to address your comment about getting the log-in. If I'm getting the log-in then it's not reading the db correctly. I just tried this very moment and it's still giving me the log-in box.

well i gotta admit i'm stumped. i am able to get in both firefox and ie8 - the person you saw in there was probably me in my registered member sock that i use to test permissions, and i was checking if that was the problem - but it doesn't appear to be.

the only thing i can think of is maybe try clearing your browser cache and cookies and see if that helps -

Right after I posted my last post I saw two people in chat. You, BlinDeye3 and the other one. (how you were both in there at the same time I don't know, and I don't think I want to know ...unless it is because of the "based on users active over the past 5 minutes")

As soon as I get a minute I will do as you suggest, clearing my browser cache and cookies, and restart my computer so I get a fresh beginning point from the get-go. I haven't had dinner yet and I've got another potentially pressing matter to attend to, but as soon as I can I will.

In IE8 I went to "Tools" then "Internet Options" then "Browsing history" and deleted "temporary files, history, cookies, saved passwords, and web form information".

I couldn't find anything that said "Cache" using that exact word.

After that and a restart, chat still opens up with the log-in screen.
